Why working for RT IT Consulting is different to other consultancies
The most striking feature of the Company is that it is tiny. This is very important in a number of respects
- You get more “air time” with the partner level (as opposed to being given your coaching by last year’s graduate).
- You get a broader picture and more responsibility than with a large firm.
- There is no career ladder in terms of X years to consultant, Y years to senior consultant, Z years to manager etc.
- You may get lonely; there is not a “cohort” of peers going through the same training/challenges/experiences that you can share problems with.
There are other small firms of consultants and many of the above will be true of them as well, but we don’t believe they take the coaching and personal development side as seriously as RT IT (simply because other companies’ bosses don’t enjoy it as much as the MD of RT IT).

What we look for in a recruit
There are certain minimum criteria we need.
- A 2.2 or better degree, preferably in an Arts subject.
- A GCSE Maths grade B or better.
- References (our clients are banks and so we will check out references, past employment and exams).
- Evidence of past work experience.
In addition we want people that will get along with the rest of the Company. We are fairly flexible about what that means, but a sense of humour, an ability to socialise with a wide range of ages and social types and a willingness to take on a variety of challenges seem to be common features.

The RT in RT IT Consulting

Robert Tripp is the RT in RT IT Consulting. He is the owner, manager and director and driving force behind the Company. He is a highly respected consultant in Banks and other Financial Institutions. The firm is not really profit driven, but rather a vehicle for job satisfaction for Robert. This satisfaction comes partly from solving complex, multifaceted problems with clients and partly from coaching and developing young people. Because he enjoys coaching he employs some recent graduates to:
- Help him on his consulting work, and
- Carry out client assignments in their own right supported by him.

How long have you been working for RT IT?
I have been working for RT IT since November 2006.
Examples of work you have done while at RT IT.
My work at RT IT has been varied. My most sizeable project to date was a securitisation project with a large UK
Clearing Bank. In this role I provided support to the team throughout all phases of the project from Design through to Implementation.
I have also worked on shorter projects within a banking environment including helping to develop the business case for a multi million pound investment
and supporting a Strategy department in its work.
I have even had some exposure to a very different industry through my project with a London-based Charity, where my role was to create an online teaching
resource.
Aside from client work, there is much work to be done around RT IT itself. This may involve anything from maintaining the company Website (in HTML)
to filming workshops, from preparing presentations to helping with recruitment, from market research to IT maintenance.
What is it like working at RT IT?
Working at RT IT is a lot of fun thanks to the variety and intensity of the work. RT IT provides a unique
learning environment where you benefit from hands on experience as well as from bespoke tutoring, and are given room to explore and develop your own
abilities. The work tends to be pretty demanding but there is always somebody to turn to for advice or support. Being such a small company the
comradeship in the team is great and clients also tend to be very helpful and friendly.

How long have you been working for RT IT?
I have been working for RT IT since January 2008.
Examples of work you have done while at RT IT.
Since I started I have worked on various projects, including the implementation of a Customer Relationship Management
tool at a Major Corporate Bank in the UK. I have also worked on a project for one of the largest software companies in India, where I researched and
produced learning materials for their staff. I have also worked on putting together a course for Project Managers and Business Analysts within a UK
Corporate Bank. This entailed interviewing people from different areas of the Group and reviewing past and present projects relevant to the topic. The end
output was a series of presentations to the target audience which I co-presented.
What is it like working at RT IT?
Working for RT IT can be fun, whilst also challenging. One of my roles within RT IT is to implement Corporate Social
Responsibility activities. We have some work in the pipeline with an Education Charity and London Development charity which I very much look forward to
implementing. I feel like I am constantly on a learning curve and it is not unusual to be outside the comfort zone.

How long have you been working for RT IT?
I have been working at RT IT since August 2010.
Examples of work you have done while at RT IT.
My first project has involved working with a major UK Corporate bank on a banking disintegration project.
The experience of the design phase of the project, where decisions are made that will impact on a large number of staff and customers, is offering me exposure that I never expected to gain so early in my career - an opportunity that I relish.
In-between client work, I have been busy with internal RT IT tasks: assuming Marketing and Operations roles, as well as managing our websites. This ensures that there is always plenty of work for me to do and that I juggle several responsibilities at any one time.
What is it like working at RT IT?
I’m learning a lot every day, about everything from banking to website management, whilst at the same time being given freedom to make decisions by myself. I am able to work at a number of different offices around London, meaning I’m often on the move, which I enjoy.
Although the team are not all working together on the same project, everyone is in regular contact, meeting up frequently and always there to offer support whenever needed.
So far, my days have been exciting, varied and extremely enjoyable.

How long have you been working for RT IT?
I have been working at RT IT since March 2011.
Examples of work you have done while at RT IT.
Since I started I have been working as a business analyst on a banking disintegration project in a major UK Corporate bank. During the design phase I gained experience in requirements gathering and had the opportunity to see how this feeds through to project implementation. Coupled with my RT IT role as Risk Officer and other internal responsibilities (such as website management), there are always new opportunities to learn and develop.
What is it like working at RT IT?
There’s never a dull moment at RT IT – I am continuously challenged and stimulated by the varied work I do. I also enjoy being able to take full ownership of my work. Still, there is always someone close to hand to offer advice and you can take full advantage of the wealth of knowledge around you. Furthermore, as we are a small company you are able to see the impact of your contributions to the running of the company which is also really rewarding.

How long have you been working for RT IT?
I worked with RT IT Consulting for 14 months, for most of which I worked with a major UK corporate bank with a couple of months focused on RT IT specific projects.
What are you doing now?
I now work as a business analyst at a leading global investment bank managing small projects to ensure compliance with the bank's regulatory reporting obligations.
What did you gain from working for RT IT?
RT IT gave me knowledge and skills in the financial services sector in a number of different aspects including:
- a broad training in the principles and practices of project management, including a foundation qualification in the most widely recognised UK project management qualification: Prince 2
- an understanding of the structure and operation of banking organisations, and in particular, about the nature of system infrastructures and IT departments within these organisations
- an exposure to the nature of consulting and a consultant's relationship with the client
- As well as getting involved with the main client projects RT IT gave me the opportunity to take the lead on small projects. This hands-on experience was a great way to learn about project management and the business environment and taught me the basic skills that have been vital in the jobs I have subsequently had.
